I’d like to bet on the Monaco GP and the Indy 500, but Google tells me betting on F1 in Vegas is near impossible and only a handful of sports books might take Indy bets (though the Indy 500 might be big enough to be a little more accessible that weekend).
Do we have any degenerate gamblers in the house? Does Oppo know of any Vegas sports books with broad (non-NASCAR) motorsport offerings?
I can’t imagine the F1 lines would be any good but it might be worth it if I can parlay a non-Mercedes victory with an Indy 500 winner.

My online book only has the current race, as well as season props. I’m in Vegas a few times a year, but ironically never looked at any motorsports lines.

Yeah I’m sure I could find some online outlets, I just prefer to do it while I’m there. The races are that weekend anyway so I thought it’d be fun to have something riding on them (even though I won’t be able to watch).

I live in Vegas and can’t even answer this. You could TRY station casinos the sports book at Santa Fe Station had bets on a rugby league and other things like that so I guess F1 isn’t out of the question.

So after reading your post and seeing the odds, I decided to throw a few bucks across the field (other than the MB brothers). Imagine my surprise when on the first lap the Silver Arrows are in the sand, and I am in the money. I’ve got Kimi, I’ve got Seb, I’ve got Massa, I’ve got RICCIARDO!!! I am a lock few for a few hundy, maybe more! Even though I was watching on DVR, I didn’t cheat. I watched it straight through. And I watched that little bastard Max run a million laps on the same set of tires. I was sure someone would catch him. I was sure he’d make a mistake or lose a tire.I was wrong. Bravo, Max.
I didn’t win, but I did have one of the most enjoyable mornings watching F1 in quite some time.

It was fun, but it was fun BECAUSE the entire Mercedes team imploded on the first lap. I think everyone is overstating how good the race was. Barcelona never has a lot of passing, and the pole-sitter almost always wins. What happened yesterday? The front row retired, and someone in the second row won. The last 20 laps included zero changes in the top 7! After Vettel pitted on lap 38, there was only one change (Ricciardo’s inexplicably late pit stop) in the top 5 for the rest of the race, almost 30 laps. Both of the remaining teams took a conservative approach, having one driver go with a two-stop strategy, and the other go with three stops.
Don’t get me wrong, it was fun, but a lot of that was because I had bet on it. Once it was clear that Seb and Ricciardo were not going to catch the leaders, it was almost as if Kimi and Max were Nico and Ham, just without a 35 second lead. There was suspense, but not any excitement unless you count Seb’s whining after Ric momentarily passed him.
Take away the Mercedes crash and it was a typical Spanish Grand Prix. Monaco will be more exiting only if the Arrows crash on lap 68.

Yeah you’re definitely right. I actually haven’t watched the entire race yet but Facebook spoiled the winner so I had a pretty good idea of what happened. Of course Ricciardo led for much of the race and, since Spain is a parade circuit, I had a pretty good idea that pit strategy was the difference between the Red Bull duo.
Part of the problem is still these cars and the dirty air they leave behind. Passing is nearly impossible without a long straight, DRS and a heavy braking zone. I kept anticipating a Ferrari pass on Red Bull but obviously that didn’t happen.

Yeah, pit was the difference between each car for Ferrari and RB.
And agreed, haven’t read the 2017 changes yet but hope aero is addressed.

The original 2017 proposal actually had more downforce, meaning the dirty air problem will probably be worse. I feel like aero has become too much of a crutch for pretty much all racing. I know Merc would still have the advantage, but less downforce, more mechanical grip would make for some good racing, I think.
